Complain Responsibly!: A Quick Guide to Filing Consumer Complaints

Complain Responsibly

“The customer is always right.” Or so the saying goes. While that quote continues to be a point of contention in the realm of providing the right kind of customer support in an increasingly digitized marketplace, remember that you, as a customer and consumer, do have the right to complain. Anyone can vent out their grievances or file a complaint because of a faulty product bought or a substandard service availed of. However, it would be best to remember that one must complain responsibly – for a company or business to properly consider the consumer. Here are some simple steps you can take to file your consumer complaints in these modern times. PeopleFinderFree will conduct a thorough search for all unknown people and their information. Are you ready to do your first search to discover whose number is this calling me?

Via official company or business websites

The simplest thing an online consumer can do to have their problems or issues addressed by the company or business would be to go to their website and look for the complaints section.  In the absence of a complaints section, a company or business would usually leave an email address dedicated to customer concerns. Onsite chat features with either virtual or real-life customer service representatives have also been the norm as of late.

Via official consumer protection agency websites or platforms

If the above option wasn’t to your consumer satisfaction, you could reach out to the proper authorities. Different countries have different agencies or groups dedicated to protecting the rights and privileges of consumers. Some are government agencies, while some are wholly independent. They usually have online platforms and portals for consumers to register and file their complaints, regardless of the offending company or business’s industry.

Via litigation

When you have exhausted all options, and haven’t had your issues addressed, it’s time to go big. File a lawsuit. Before filing a lawsuit against a bad business or consumeristic company, it is of utmost importance to know what you’re fighting for. Knowing your consumer rights is essential to filing a complaint. Your rights are as follows (as standardized by international consumer groups and government organizations):

  • The right to safe goods, products, and services
  • The right to complete and factual information from businesses, sellers, and manufacturers to make informed consumer choices
  • The right to choose from a variety of goods, products, and services at fair prices
  • The right to have your complaints heard and addressed
  • The right to be remedied or compensated by businesses, sellers, or manufacturers if they are found guilty of harming you and other consumers
  • The right to basic necessities (food, water, clothing, and shelter)
  • The right to a safe and healthy environment

Consult with a lawyer if you believe that the company or business involved violated one or more of the universal rights mentioned, and they have made no efforts to resolve your situation. Then, you must send notice to the court. In the legal notice, state what you believe the business, producer, or manufacturer did wrong and how it affected you or others. You may also state how you or others want to be redressed.

Bonus tip:

Writing down all the details of a problematic purchase or service rendered and organizing the necessary documents involved will help you make the shady company or business consider the consumer. In addition, supporting documents like receipts, policies, or warranties will be invaluable should you find yourself in a situation wherein a defective product was given or a service rendered wasn’t up to par. If you’ve lost the physical copies of these documents, digital copies or photocopies may do.
