What are Different Types of Hair and How to Recognize Them?

Different Types of Hair

Here I will explain the differences between the individual hair and tell you how to recognize your hair type in “Different Types of Hair”

Introduction

Tell me your hair type and I will tell you which hair you have. Okay, it’s not that easy, but your hair type does reveal a few things about your hair. Here I will explain the differences between the individual hair types and tell you how to recognize your hair type.

Hair types

According to statistics, women in the United States have very different hair types, from normal (approx. 48%) to thin, fine hair (23%) to colored (25%) and dry hair (13%). The remaining hair types are a little rarer in this country.

For me, it is particularly important to include hair in one of the four main categories:

1 – Straight hair

2 – wavy hair

3 – curly hair

4 – frizzy hair

Because this way I get an idea of your hair and can already give you one or two tips. The coarse hair structure already tells you whether you need a lot of moisture, especially to start your new healthy hair care routine.

Different women use different hair care products for their hair. I suggest Streax hair serum for making your hair smooth.

You are probably like me and many others too. I have different curls on my head ranging from hair type 2c to 3c. The division is especially helpful when you are talking about your hair to people who are not sitting next to you. For your hair care, however, the rough classification is completely sufficient.

What hair type do I have?

Here I will tell you the properties of hair types 1-4. If you want to know which hair care is the best for you, I recommend that you take my hair care test , because I need some more information to determine the right products.

Hair type 1 – straight hair

As hair type 1 you have straight hair – really straight hair without waves. During my curl journey, I met an incredible number of people with straight hair who, however, straighten their hair every day. I always asked myself why you have to straighten your hair when it’s already straight. Today I am sure that these people actually belong to hair type 2, that is, they have wavy hair and just don’t know how to care for them. So I can tell you that there aren’t many people with hair type 1. Because the hair of type 1 falls really smoothly.

Hair type 2 – wavy hair

As hair type 2, you have wavy hair. By the way, I’ve met some people who thought they had straight hair, but “whenever it rains” or when they sweat, it gets waves. If you are one of them, you should definitely try the Wavy Girl method . I’m pretty sure that with the right hair care, your hair can turn into very beautiful waves and sometimes even curls.

Hair type 2a : Your hair is wavy. You probably think that you have straight hair that only shows a wave, but with the right care and styling, you can activate your waves.

Hair type 2b : You have wavy hair that is clearly recognizable.

Hair type 2c : Your hair is wavy, occasionally you can also see curls on your hair.

Hair type 3 – curly hair

Curly hair is referred to as hair type 3. You have curly hair, where you can see the curls that are partly bundled together. They range from larger curls to downright corkscrew curls. Your hair is very prone to frizz. You should definitely read my guide to the Curly Girl method, because this hair care method fits your hair perfectly.

Hair type 3a : You have a lot of curls that are quite large and well defined. Your locks will shine beautifully when they are well defined.

Hair type 3b : You have very curly hair and regular corkscrew curls that are not too large in diameter.

Hair type 3c : Your hair is very curly. You have a lot of little corkscrew curls.

THE CURLY HAIR, THE DRIER IT IS!

But the hair type classification goes one step further. The intensity of your waves or curls is queried. In my overview you can see the exact division.

Hair type 4 – frizzy hair

Extreme curls or frizzy hair are referred to as hair type 4.

Your curls are frizzy, you have very small corkscrew curls up to Z-shaped hair that is very close together or tangled together. With you, there is sometimes no real curl pattern recognizable. Instead, your hair shrinks extremely, making waxing a pain for some. Your hair breaks very easily.

You should definitely read my guide to the Curly Girl method, because this hair care method fits your hair perfectly.

Hair type 4a:  You have extremely small corkscrew curls that are very close together.

Hair type 4b:  You have extreme curls that are very voluminous and even z-shaped. Your curls are not recognizable as a single curl.

Hair type 4c:  Your finely structured curls are Z-shaped and are very tangled with each other, so that no real curl pattern can be seen in you. Instead, your hair shrinks extremely, making waxing a pain for some. Your hair breaks very easily.

What do hair types really say about hair?

Now you have got to know all hair types and in the best case you can assign your hair to a hair type. However, strictly speaking, your hair type does not say anything meaningful about your hair. In order to determine the right hair care, you should know the porosity of the hair and its thickness.
