Android versions 1.0

Android version 1.5: Cupcake

Android version 1.6: Donut

In the same year, Sept. 2009, Android brought simple updates and introduced 1.6 Donut; it feels Donut. The main modification was the managing power control widgets and quick camera and Gallery toggling features. This OS also added the quick search box. This OS was enabled in a 5-inch colossal touch screen, and people are fond of these phones. 

Android versions 2.0 to 2.3

Android version 2.0 to 2.3 was launched from December 2009 to 2010. The variations were named Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread. They brought about incremental android updates. Such significant features were Update UI, Bluetooth 2.0, live wallpaper, speed improvement, social networking support, and updates on the previous systems.

Motorola was the first brand that included Android 2.0 in the smartphone. Then Google also released this Android version with their Nexus smartphone series. The actual purpose of this version is to increase memory, speed, and performance. 

Android versions 4.1 to 4.4

From 2012 to 2013, Android OS was developed for a new foundation and fine-tuning. These Android versions expanded plenty of updates for polishing the system. Jelly Bean and Kit Kat were the names of these versions. They comprised interactive notifications, the voice search system, and most notable, the quick control panel system.

Android versions 5.0 and 5.1: Lollipop

With the Android version Lollipop, Android reinvented the OS in the year 2014. Lollipop combined a standard material design and a new appearance, allowing all the extended notifications with one glance.

It also introduced hands-free voice control through the “OK, Google” command. The Android Lollipop version gets huge responses from the users, and many third phone makers still use this operating system. 

Android version 6.0: Marshmallow

In 2015, Android released the Marshmallow version, but it was relevantly a minor update. It feels like it just held the trend of releasing new additions every year. The screen-search feature was the only attention-grabbing aspect in this version. 

Android versions 7.0 and 7.1: Nougat

The Android Nougat was launched in 2016 to provide a native split-screen mode, Data saver feature, and app-file system. There are also fewer features, but those were significant updates. However, later Google added the Google Assistant for delivering the Google service easily. 

Android version 8.0 and 8.1: Oreo

The next year, Android Oreo included:

  • The native picture-in-picture mode.
  • A notification channel system where all apps can send alerts.
  • Snoozing notification option.

Then Google was aligning Chrome OS and Android for enhancing the experience. 

Android version 9: Pie

The Android 9 Pie is like a freshly baked Android ecosystem launched in 2018. The most prominent change was the hybrid gesture support, multifunctional Home button, traditional back, and overview keys. This noteworthy productivity is a universally adopted system and brought a boom in the smartphone market.

Android version 10

Android 10 came in 2019 with a black theme and also new upgrades. There you will find a new setup for hot-fix-style, which gives faster rollouts with narrow patches. It makes the security system stronger as well as access to the location data control. 

Android version 11

Android 11 undertook in 2020 that brings more security updates for the users. It helps to control the location access, camera access, and microphone access.
