If you’re currently looking for Vertigo treatment, you’re not alone. Vertigo is a condition that affects a large part of the adult population today & is especially common in the middle-aged.

Vertigo is a condition characterized by a sensation of feeling dizzy & off-balance. Patients often feel as if they or the world around them is spinning or moving.

These symptoms can also be accompanied by nausea & vomiting, & sometimes motion sickness as well. Vertigo isn’t a disorder in itself, relatively a symptom of some underlying condition causing the symptoms.

Relationship Anxiety – Here are the Causes, Signs and Treatment

Vertigo causes:

An issue usually causes vertigo with the inner ear. Some of the most common Vertigo causes are:

BPPV: BPPV stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. BPPV Vertigo occurs when tiny calcium particles, also called canals, get dislodged from their original position & get deposited in the inner ear.

Since these calcium particles are sensitive to any motion stimulus, they can cause problems with the body’s natural balance system when the patient moves their head in specific ways.

BPPV can be caused by head trauma, infections in the ear, or for no particular reason at all. It can also occur at any age.

Meniere’s Disease: Meniere’s Disease is an inner ear condition caused by a buildup of fluid inside the ear. This causes feelings of pressure & fullness in the ears & also leads to Vertigo symptoms.

Patients with Meniere’s Disease also experience symptoms of Vertigo, including dizziness, disorientation, & nausea. They could also experience motion sickness & vomiting, along with a ringing or buzzing sound in the ear called Tinnitus.

Vestibular Neuritis or labyrinthitis: Vestibular Neuritis is caused by an infection of the Vestibular nerve in the body’s vestibular system. This leads to inflammation of the nerve responsible for carrying balance signals from the inner ear to the brain. This infection causes Vertigo-like symptoms like dizziness, motion sickness, nausea, & disbalance. It can also cause pain inside the ear.

In some cases, Vertigo can also be caused by:

Ahead of a neck injury,

Brain problems like a stroke or a tumor,

Some medications that can cause ear damage,

Migraine headaches

Vertigo symptoms:

Vertigo symptoms, especially BPPV Vertigo symptoms, are caused by a change in the head’s position. These symptoms include:

Feeling like you or the room is spinning.

Tilting to one side or direction

Swaying to one side of the body

Pulled towards one direction

Other Vertigo symptoms could also include:

Feelings of nausea

Abnormal or jerking eye movements, also called nystagmus.

Ringing in the ears or hearing loss

BPPV Vertigo symptoms can last anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours. If your symptoms are especially severe, you should immediately visit a doctor.

Vertigo treatment

Vertigo treatment depends on whichever condition is causing it. It involves treating the inherent disease as well as symptom mitigation. In most cases, Vertigo goes away on its own as the brain learns to adapt to whatever is causing the symptoms in the first place.

However, if your Vertigo symptoms do not go away on their own, Vertigo treatment can help you feel better.

Vertigo treatment may include:

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy: Vestibular Rehabilitation therapy refers to a series of Vertigo exercises & maneuvers designed to treat your Vertigo symptoms & causes through targeted movements. These exercises help strengthen & realign the body’s Vestibular System, which controls balance.

Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers: This set of Vertigo exercises is helpful for BPPV Vertigo treatment. These BPPV maneuvers help reposition the dislodged calcium particles in the inner ear to their original position. These BPPV maneuvers can trigger vertigo symptoms in patients while treating that overtime.

These Vertigo exercises designed for BPPV Vertigo treatment include:

Brandt-Daroff exercises: Brandt Daroff exercises are Vertigo exercises designed for BPPV Vertigo treatment.

To perform the Brandt-Daroff exercise, perform the following steps:

Sit on the edge of a couch or a bed,

Lie down on your left side, turning your head to look upwards. Perform both of these movements within 1 or 2 seconds, keeping your head at a 45-degree angle. Hold this position for about 30 seconds.

Next, sit up on the bed for 30 seconds.

Repeat all of these steps on the right side.

Perform this exercise in a set of five repetitions each time.

Next, sit up & wait 30 seconds to let the dizziness pass. It’s important to remember not to do any activities that require you to focus entirely or concentrate, as these exercises can trigger Vertigo symptoms.

You should perform the Brandt-Daroff exercise in three sets every day; one in the morning, one in the afternoon, & one in the evening. To get the best results, do this exercise regularly for 14 days after an episode of Vertigo.

The Brandt-Daroff exercises are successful for about 80% of patients with BPPV Vertigo. Given these statistics, this Vertigo exercise is recommended to BPPV Vertigo patients as part of their Vertigo treatment plan.

Other exercises for BPPV Vertigo treatment:

Besides the Brandt-Daroff exercises, other BPPV maneuvers help in relieving the symptoms of BPPV Vertigo.

These Vertigo exercises include:

Semont-Maneuver for Vertigo: The Semont-Maneuver for Vertigo is also a well-known BPPV Maneuver, recommended for BPPV Vertigo treatment. It involves moving the head in specific directions to relieve the Vertigo symptoms experienced by patients. Like the Brandt-Daroff exercise for BPPV Vertigo treatment, the Semont Maneuver for Vertigo can also trigger Vertigo symptoms.

Epley Maneuver for BPPV Vertigo: The Epley Maneuver for Vertigo is also a very well known BPPV maneuver & Vertigo exercise for BPPV Vertigo treatment. Your healthcare provider will move your head in specific directions to help dislodge your misplaced canaliths & put them back in their original positions. The Epley Maneuver is also known to be extremely useful in BPPV Vertigo treatment & works for most patients.

Besides these joint Vertigo exercises, there are other Vertigo treatment options for BPPV Vertigo. These include surgeries for cases where nothing else works, Vertigo medicines to relieve Vertigo symptoms like nausea, dizziness, & motion sickness, along with treatment options for any infections that may be causing your Vertigo.
