History of Rajasthan
Archeological evidence suggests that many parts of today’s Rajasthan once used to belong to the Vedic and Indus valleys. For some time in the next century, Mauria, Indo-Greeks, Indo-Scythians, Guptas, and Hunas ruled some parts of the area until the Rajputs rose during the 7th C.E. In 1192, the presence of Muslim rulers in the area was established; most Rajput rulers embraced Mughal rule during the reign of Akbar.
After the fall of the Mughal, the Jats took control of the area shortly before the Marathas and the British came under the influence of it. Following India’s independence, the former province of Rajputana was recognized as an Indian state in the 1950s for several points. Today’s state limits were established in 1956.
