Picking the right blanket can have a significant effect with regards to getting adequate sleep. However, with such countless types of blankets available today, sorting out which one is appropriate for you can be easier said than done. Moreover, when it comes to the size of blankets, it becomes more confusing. If you are not sure what size you need for your bed, there is a handy standard blanket sizes chart that will help you choose the right blanket.

Types Of Blankets

There are as many types of a blanket in the market depending on size and fabric. But the most common blankets are

  1. Comforter
  2. Duvet
  3. Quilt
  4. Throw blanket
  5. Coverlet
  6. Weighted blanket
  7. Electric blanket

Comforter

Characteristically, a comforter is a thick, fluffy, and quilted blanket used to keep you warm. It is normally loaded up with synthetic fiber which is knitted or sewed to get the filling and keep it equally circulated.

Duvet

A duvet is a soft blanket filled with feathers and wool. It has a removable cover which are made from cotton or a blend of cotton and polyester and can be easily removed to wash at home, while a duvet can be expensive and difficult to clean.

Quilt

A quilt is a coverlet for a bed composed of three layers of fabric that are quilted or stitched together. Conventionally, the top layer of a quilt is made from a different set of fabrics sewn together into attractive designs.

Throw blanket

Throw blankets can be as small as a hand towel or large as a king-sized bed. Throw blankets are lightweight decorative blankets. They can be used for naps, watching TV, or for a light cover, but aren’t big enough to cover your whole body for sleep.

Coverlet

A coverlet is a lightweight, non-reversible comforter that is usually either woven or stitched. Traditionally used to cover a blanket or other decorative item on a bed. They may be a single layer or multiple (quilted) layers of fabric. They can also be used as throws on a bed or sofa.

Weighted Blankets

Weighted blankets are hefty blankets used for remedial reasons, for example, alleviating tension and stress. These types of blankets are filled with plastic pellets or glass beads. So, those of you determining how heavy a weighted blanket is, you must know that they are quite heavy.

Electric Blanket

An electric blanket is made from heavy, sturdy material with an internally integrated wiring system that provides warmth and heat through coil wires. However, all safety measures need to be followed while using an electric blanket. Moreover, most blanket companies don’t recommend this blanket for pregnant women as there can be overheating.

Baby: Also known as security blankets, these can be considered newborn babies’ blankets.

Cradle: Once a child turns a year old, it’s the ideal time for a cradle blanket. They cover newborn children while dozing or sleeping in the cradle.

Preemie: Preemie blankets are ideal for premature babies. These blankets look just like swaddle pillows.

Stroller: These blankets are especially used to keep your child cozy and warm while in strollers. They can be also used while traveling in vehicles, in cribs as well as on beds.

Lapghan: A knitted or crochet blanket, otherwise called lap-size Afghan blanket, sofa spreads, and wheelchair blankets. Many hospitals use this blanket to take hand-tailored lapghan blanket donations for their patients if they are confined to a bed or wheelchair.

Receiving: Receiving blankets are for wrapping your little one up and keeping her or him warm. They are soft and warm.

Crib: These blankets fit into most cribs and tot beds. Crib blankets are sufficiently large for wrapping up your newborn child.

Throw: Smaller than most blankets and are also decorative and versatile. The main difference is a throw blanket isn’t sized to fit on mattresses such as bedspreads, quilts and duvet covers.

Afghan: Knitted blanket or rug, usually called a throw. Afghans are used as a bedspread or one couch or chair for decorative purposes.

Twin: The blankets are sufficiently long to fit effectively on both twin beds and twin XL beddings.

Double: As the name suggests, these blankets go with full mattresses.

Queen: They are fitting for a queen bed. However, you can also use this blanket on a full and king bed if necessary.

King: Biggest of all the above blankets, they are big enough to cover your king-size bed. These blankets are available in other mattress sizes as well.

Conclusion

A blanket should be velvety and comfy, not coarse and rough. While it’s a personal choice, and we are all occupied, it may very well be shrewd to look at diverse options in the stores prior to purchasing one online. Good reviews about products online are also helpful when it comes to purchasing items, and many people feel comfortable using those to purchase online.

Investing in the perfect blanket that you can cozy up in and have a peaceful sleep is worth the price. So, while shopping for a blanket, be sure to consider its purpose, the fabric it is made of, and most importantly its size.
