Table of Contents

Thailand is a country that offers a lot of variety. It is an ideal destination for anyone who wants to experience the diversity of Southeast Asia. From bustling cities and serene beaches to lush jungles and towering mountains, Thailand has it all.

The country also has many attractions that are perfect for backpackers looking for an adventure. Here are 7 places in Thailand that you should visit if you are planning to go backpacking in this amazing country:

Bangkok

Located in the north of Thailand, Bangkok is the capital city, and it is home to over 10.7 million people. It is such a large city that you can find many different things to do. You can shop until your heart’s content or head to a temple. There are also many places that offer good food and drinks as well as entertainment for those who are in search of a good time.

Chiang Mai

Located in the north of Thailand and known for being a city full of art, culture, and history. The most famous festival is the Loy Krathong Festival which is celebrated on a full moon day every November when people throw small, handmade lotus flowers into beautiful lakes or rivers to celebrate the end of a new year and start of a new. There are also many events during the year that take place in Chiang Mai such as the International Flower Festival and Elephant Parade.

Ko Samui

Some backpackers may know of this island which is located off the coast of Phuket but they might not be aware that it is also known for being a hub for backpackers looking to get away from the bustle of the larger islands.

The island itself is made up of coral and it is not as developed as some other islands in Thailand so the landscape here is relatively untouched, giving it a natural feel.

Besides being a good place to escape from the rest, Ko Samui also offers many things that can be enjoyed by people who enjoy sightseeing, such as its Ay utthaya ruins, beaches, and temples. The island also has many places to stay ranging from cheap guesthouses to luxury resorts that are on the beach.

Phuket

It is known for its natural beauty and its stunning white-sand beaches, but it is also one of the best places in Thailand for shopping. People who enjoy shopping will not be disappointed in Phuket as there are various markets and shopping malls to explore.

The island is also home to some of the best restaurants in Thailand, making it a hotspot for cuisine enthusiasts. Phuket is also a popular destination for people who enjoy recreational activities such as diving or snorkeling.

Koh Tao

This island off the coast of Khao Lak has been dubbed the “Coral Island” by the locals. The island is known for its beautiful beaches and clear waters, making it a popular place to go diving and snorkeling as well as to party.

There are many resorts on the island that cater to people who enjoy vacationing on Koh Tao so finding a place that suits your needs will not be too difficult.

Koh Phangan

This island is known for its vibrant and colourful nightlife! People who enjoy live music, busy bar scenes and partying will not be disappointed with the vibrancy of Koh Phangan. The island is also a popular destination for people who enjoy party-goers because the beaches are lined with bars and restaurants that serve alcohol until late in the evening.

Koh Samui

This island is perfect for beach-goers who are looking to relax and unwind while surrounded by natural beauty. Koh Samui is a place that offers exceptional snorkeling, diving and sailing opportunities, as well as surfing lessons.

If you are an active traveler who would like to take advantage of these activities on the island, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a resort that suits your needs.

The best time to go on a backpacking trip in Thailand is during the dry season. The dry season lasts from December to May and it is the best time for exploring different parts of the country. The weather is warm, but not too hot. It’s also a great time for waterfalls and swimming in rivers. That being said, the rainy season is great as well.

During the rainy season, many people go camping in the National Parks and it’s a very relaxing experience. It depends on your style of travel. Some people like to explore different parts of Thailand during the dry season, while others find that staying at one destination and seeing what there is to see for a period of time is more enjoyable. When traveling to Thailand remember to exchange your currency for Thai Baht.

US dollars are also widely accepted but you’ll get a better rate if you exchanged your currency for Thai Baht. There are ATMs all around Thailand so it’s easy to get cash when you need it. Just remember to bring your debit card and PIN number with you. Also, don’t forget to pack your sunscreen! The sun is very strong in Thailand and you’ll want to make sure you’re protected from its harmful rays.

Now that you know a little bit more about backpacking in Thailand, it’s time to start planning your trip! Use this guide as a starting point and then customize it to fit your own needs and interests. With a little bit of research, you’re sure to have an amazing and unforgettable experience backpacking through Thailand.
