Causes, Symptoms & Treatments Of Cystitis

Some people are lucky enough to have never experienced the pain and discomfort of the most common of the water infections, cystitis.

However, if you are currently experiencing a bout of cystitis, or else are wanting to be prepared for when it strikes the next time, then here, for your information, is a guide to the causes, symptoms and treatments of cystitis.

What Is Cystitis?

Cystitis is, simply put, an infection in the urinary tract and contrary to popular belief, it can occur in men and women, although it does seem to be slightly more prominent in the latter.

When the bladder becomes irritated and inflamed, the infection is caused by bacteria and can actually become more than a painful inconvenience if the infection spreads to the kidneys.

The Main Symptoms Of Cystitis

There is a myriad of obvious signs that you have probably developed a urinary tract infection, including but not limited to, the below following:

  • Discomfort in the pelvic region
  • Feeling as if you need to urinate almost constantly
  • Urinating in small bursts
  • Pain and burning when urinating
  • Pressure and discomfort in the lower abdomen
  • Fever
  • Blood in the urine

Additionally, cystitis in men can sometimes be linked to erectile dysfunction and it is important, if you do find yourself in this situation, to treat the former before the latter. If you do find yourself experiencing erectile dysfunction on one or more occasions, it is strongly advisable to contact a reputable and renowned pharmacy, such as chemistclick.co.uk.

How To Prevent An Attack Of Cystitis

Some medical experts believe that if a person experiences a bout of cystitis, they are from that day forward more likely to experience it again, believing it to be a sort of all-or-nothing bacterial infection.

That being said, there are numerous ways to prevent and protect yourself against contracting cystitis as best you can, whether or not you have had it before.

Warm Showers

Instead of indulging in regular and boiling hot baths, instead try and switch to mainly showers instead and turn the temperature down so the water is still warm, but not scalding.

Toiletries

If you are someone that regularly uses feminine products, feminine wipes or else any other deodorant sprays around your genital area, it is far more sensible to stop this immediately, as some experts believe such toiletries to be a trigger for cystitis.

Urination

Although the feeling of constantly needing to urinate but being unable to is one of the frustrating and uncomfortable symptoms of a cystitis or other urinary tract infection, it is still important that, when you do feel the need to use the toilet, you at least try to.

Drink Fluids

Even if you are someone who is healthy enough to always drink plenty of glasses of water each and every day regular, it is very important to still up your intake of water to help stave off an attack of cystitis. Furthermore, drinking pure cranberry juice also helps to soothe the pain experienced when urinating.
